Overview

Sri Lanka, due to its warm weather climate, tropical beaches and cultural experiences, is fast becoming a favored place for destination for explorers. Also known as the pearl of the Indian Ocean, its 2000 years plus old culture is well preserved in its ancient sites filled with mystery and stunning beaches with white sands. There are several forts and monuments, which stand as a testimony to the colonial past. These structures were used by the British, Dutch and Portuguese and are intact in different parts of the country. The UNESCO World Heritage Sites like the Galle Fort Dambulla Cave Temple, Sigiriya are well kept. Sri Lanka also being a perfect destination for beach lovers is a treat for the ones who love diving or lazing around for the tan. Highlights

Trip will unfold as:

Day 1

Colombo – Negombo (40 kms/1 hr)

Arrive at Colombo Airport where you would meet the Cloud Itineraries representative. Drive to Negombo from the airport. Visit the Negombo Fort built by the Portuguese to defend Colombo. Also visit the Hamilton Canal (Dutch Canal) which once acted as an important transportation and trading route.

Day 2

Negombo- Kalpitiya- Negombo (140 kms/3 hrs one way)

In the morning proceed for an excursion to Kalpitiya, one of the best spots for dolphin and whale watching in Sri Lanka. Large pods of Spinner Dolphins could be found within a just one hour boat ride from Kalpitiya Harbour, while Sperm Whales and Blue Whales are found in large pods near the Bar Reef.

Day 3

Negombo- Marawila- Negombo (30 kms/1 hr)

Post breakfast drive to Marawila to spend the morning exploring around the wreck of a Royal Air Force fighter bomber, which despite crashing over fifty years ago is in great form. Here it is common to sight large moray eels, as well as marine life.

Day 4

Negomno- Colombo (40 kms/1 hr)

Enjoy the morning cruising along the colonial Dutch canals and head to Colombo. Rest of the day is free to explore the city or just relax at the hotel.

Day 5

Colombo- Hikkaduwa (120 kms/2.5 hrs)

Drive to Hikkaduwa in the morning. Spend the day exploring the oceans with a dive to Hikkaduwa’s exciting wreck diving sites.

Day 6

Hikkaduwa- Galle- Mirissa (65 kms/2 hrs)

Begin the day with dives at Hikkaduwa. Later leave for Mirissa and en-route visit the Galle Fort (Dutch Fort), a fortification first built by the Portuguese on the Southwestern coast of Sri Lanka. Also visit the National Maritime Museum in Galle.

Day 7

Mirissa

Leave in the morning to the middle of the ocean eak in search of gentle giants of the ocean. Blue whales, Bryde´s whales, sperm whales, Fin whales, bottlenose dolphins, common dolphins and spinner dolphins can be found within just eight to ten nautical miles from Mirissa harbor.

Day 8

Mirissa- Colombo (150 kms/3 hrs)

In the morning have breakfast and leave for Colombo. After arriving, head straight to the airport for your departure flight.
